Program Outline

 
  • Full scholarship program being offered to 20-25 graduating high school seniors with a vocational background
  • A pre-departure orientation in Washington D.C.
  • Two months of intensive German Language Training
  • Both a Mid-Term and Re-Entry Seminar in Berlin
  • Training/School attendance and an internship while living with a German host family
  • Room and Board for the duration of the program
  • Health, liability and accident insurance
  • International travel to and from Germany
 
Eligibility Requirements
 
  • At least 18 year old and no more than 19 years old by July 1
  • Graduating seniors who will complete U.S. school studies in January or June prior to departure
  • Minimum of a “B” average (3.0 GPA)
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to serve as an ambassador of your country- the USA!
 
How to Apply
 
  • Must be nominated by your high school
  • Each school may nominate up to 3 students
  • Students can call Nacel Open Door at 800-622-3553 for assistance
  • Completed applications must be postmarked by Januray 31
  • Schools forward completed application

 

 
Additional Information
 

Conceived by members of the United States Congress and the German Bundestag, this full scholarship program is designed to strengthen ties between the successive generations of each country.

  • Provides the opportunity for exchange students to expand their perspectives and awareness of each country
  • Provides a unique intercultural educational opportunity
  • Over 300 American high school students receive full scholarships each year
  • Supported and funded by the United States Congress the German Bundestag

 

 
Program Summary
 
  • All students receive 2 months intensive language preparation
  • Students should be aware that Nacel Open Door’s partner in Germany will make every effort to place them in a school or work situation in their field of interest
  • Understand that the “international experience” is the important and essential element in the exchange, rather than the specific training
  • Students are required to bring between $300-$350 per month for spending money
  • Students will provide own domestic round trip transportation from their home to Washington D.C.
